How long has it been since you’ve been in a cool butterfly enclosure? Long time? Never? Did you see anything spectacular? Did you really look? All valid questions and I’m not judging, just asking because if you do really look, it’s incredible what you’ll find. Nature’s like that.
I was at Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale, AZ, which is not only the largest butterfly conservatory in the United States but is also arguably one of the coolest enclosures I’ve ever been in. Immediately when you enter, you’re surrounded by a warm, tropical environment chock full of beautiful winged beings of nature flitting around without a care in the world other than where they might find the next bit of tasty nectar.
I happened upon something black in the bushes, and upon closer inspection, I saw two butterflies mating. How lucky was I to be chosen to witness a miracle of Nature? Something I’ll never forget for sure, but especially because I managed to capture the moment in time when it was actually happening!
Butterflies are very symbolic. They represent change, happiness, sorrow, birth, and transformation, among other things. But the truly amazing part is watching a butterfly emerge from its cocoon and the lifecycle they go through. Sometimes, something prevents them from going from one stage to the next, so we get to witness, without knowing it, that we see a true survivor.
So the next time you see a butterfly flying around, it has survived its trials and tribulations to emerge a beautiful, natural being who takes extreme pleasure in simply sitting on a leaf to warm its wings in the sun. Appreciate that. Appreciate Nature.
Until next time…
